Sacred Bones can help you achieve your goals.
Whether you are a university student, mid-career, family, or retired, the experience, perspective, and learning you gain from participating in Sacred Bones can lead to personal growth, career development, a life in service, or even class credit (where available).
Our program combines online curriculum with personalized, hands-on conservation and restoration experience. You may enroll independently or as part of a school or university curriculum.
Learning materials are web-based and readily available to augment instructor-led courses (in-class or online) or for self-paced distance learning by individuals and groups.
The Journey Cycle
Sacred Bones courses, or journeys, center on an endangered wildlife species woven into the histories and cultures of tribal peoples. Each journey is made up of three segments. The first segment, Remembrance, is accessed online. Using western and indigenous science, we explore natural history, conservation, trans-species psychology, wildlife forensics, law, environmental ethics, earth and ocean literacy. .

After completing Remembrance, you embark on the second segment of Sacred Bones, Return, by virtually or physically participating in a journey of symbolic repatriation of the transgressed animal's remains (sacred bones) to the turtle's place of origin.
In the third and final segment, Renewal, you enroll in one of several mentored internships available with our local or international collaborators to further enhance your skills and life experience.
At program's close, you will receive a Sacred Bones Certificate of Completion in recognition of your accomplishment and commitment.
